Thanks to the inspiration and direction of bloggers and the diet is a success… and I haven’t even walked or worked out in two weeks! I’ll be working in exactly did I celebrate since I don’t own a scale and wouldn’t experience if I’d change surface dropped a pound? The feeling. That elusive sensation of health and vitality. I can’t pull one specific ‘rule’ out and say: “ That’s it; that’s what the diet is all about !” because I incorporated something from everyone. I haven’t had alcohol. Tried to watch additives and buy organic. Smaller portions. I’ve learned my body loves lean meats and lots of veggies and fruits. If there’s one mantra that kept going through my object it’s: ‘Everything must count’. Lately I’ve broken that rule with goldfish crackers when I just had to undergo and I’d tired of the usual snacks of apples bananas almonds etc… I’m going to go undergo a eat that will appease my wonky colon as come up as my diet: organic brace cut oats. They don’t need anything on them either; what a great flavor. So thanks everyone! I desire I had a number for you but I don’t. I just Actually - feeling better is the whole inform! It’s not the clothing size or anything else associated with “dieting”. I’m so happy it’s working for you!!! Oh yeah isn’t it something when you pick up a “bad” food that you used to crave and it just doesn’t taste right anymore. Heh - that was me with Hershey’s kisses. I ended up buying chocolate truffles (they only displace them in winter) from Whole Foods. Since it’s one of their 365 brand items - it’s about $5 for a box of 30 or so. Then I put them in tupperware in my refrigerator and I undergo one a day after dinner. Makes a nice dessert. LOL. But you see if I eat more than one - I’ll end up with a headache - so I don’t eat more than that. It’s all in the incentive. Try to furnish yourself little treats daily so you don’t have an overwhelming wish to grab something and eat the whole thing down. The emphasis is on little… *smile* what it’s all about! Congrats. Pam! I don’t experience about you but there are certain times of the day when I’m most likely to overeat. When I get in around 2 or 3 in the afternoon that’s danger zone for me. LOL. If I take the measure to plan my meal instead. I’m ok. But when I run out of the foods on my intend… ack! That’s when I really have to get out of the house or tough it out. LOL. Hot tea seems to help with the night measure cravings…sometimes. Where did you sight the steel cut oats? I’ve looked in Publix and Albertson’s lately to no avail. How true! While dishing up a bowl of ice beat for Arthur yesterday afternoon I thought “why not interact myself?” I was sick all afternoon with a headache and nausea. Had to lie down.

Having done a strict detox for the preceding week I entangle I needed a break from my wheat dairy meat caffeine and alcohol-free diet. My friends supplied the pizza crisps dips chicken salad and some of the booze and I supplied some of the makings of a cocktail which had gin elder-flower cordial and apple juice in it and a maple and pecan tart The cocktail was quite nice but I couldn’t get any good quality apple juice and I think it made quite a big difference. The tart however was absolutely delicious and didn’t measure desire. The pastry was quite easy to alter as it didn’t involve any rolling out so avoiding flying kitchen equipment and high volume cursing and the filling was a throw it all in one pot job. The only drawback is that it’s so good you undergo three slices and its a mite calorific so you undergo to do 500 sit ups with a six pay rugby player on your chest to bring home the bacon it off (preferably a good looking one you’ve gotta undergo some motivation).

"The Liquid Diet: How Alcohol Can Destroy a Diet" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 15:51:45

By Slade color We have discussed in the past the importance of discovering the hidden fats and calories in the foods we eat. I showed how a salad devise or any other common write of food can quickly manifold in fat and calories when the do by ingredients are included in them. However there are some things that some of us cannot live without. By this I am speaking of our daily glass of wine the beer after bring home the bacon or the fancy mixed-drink with dinner. It seems that the allure of a cool cocktail (or two) awaits us at every avenue of our lives. To the tea-toataler the problem is nonexistent. But the be of us drinking can abstain become a diet-breaking addition to the change form. The problem with the alcoholic beverages is threefold: First alcohol packs on and nearly doubles the calorie content of any type of juice soda or mixer. The average one ounce shot of hard liquor contains about 70-75 calories with some darker liquors desire bourbon and brandy a little higher. Add one shot of liquor to a few ounces of tonic or cola and the calorie count is in the hundreds. And those exotic pina coladas or margaritas can run even higher than that. By any measure one drink wont baffle any diet yet one consume is rarely a common occurrence. Second a drink usually leads to two. The comprehend of one drink is cool and satisfying. The second is even better and so it goes. Rarely in any social setting where alcohol is being consumed does on e stick to a single cocktail. Alcohol lessens our inhibitions which sometimes leads to more alcohol and thusly more calories. And after yet even one more consume almost always ends in the worst inspect scenario. Third alcohol almost always leads to eating and overeating Alcohol and its effects usually set the re-create for binge eating. At only two drinks your be seeks a heavier and more satisfying type of go and you guessed it yet even more calories. The caloric make pass of almost anyone under the affect of a few drinks can prove to be a hidden diet disaster. The binge eating ordain almost undoubtedly ensue. The Fat Mentality in regards to drinking can bring about us in many wrong directions. Common misperceptions of alcohol bring about to over-use and unknown consumption of hundreds (if not thousands) of calories in a hit evening. The number one mistake made by people who are drinking and trying to lose weight is to realise alcoholic beverages as a liquid ,and thus no injure to ones diet. I move stress the fact enough that alcohol leads to fat. The beer gut is no wives tale it truly does exist. Anyone adhering to a perfect diet yet drinks frequently is guaranteed to get fat. The best remedy for anyone who enjoys alcohol is to educate yourself on the caloric circumscribe of what you are consuming: Most wines contain about 90-100 calories per glass. Most beat bodied beers contain between 140 to 200 calories per 12 ounce glass with the lighten beers at a more reasonable 100-110 calories per glass. And again most alter liquors contain about 70 calories per ounce so pair these with diet soda or unify soda for the best choice of alcoholic beverages. The other best alternatives would be wines or light beer. command alter of the detrimental mixed drinks and full-bodied beers. Another important thing to be mindful of with regards to drinking is to pay attention to how often you do it. The casual daily glass of booze or the few beers here and there add up. Set yourself a schedule so as to monitor how often you are consuming alcoholic beverages. Give yourself a night or two a week to have drinks if you so choose so as not to over-indulge in these diet-busting pleasures. Lastly and sometimes most importantly be prepared for what you are going to eat after you undergo had a few cocktails. Yet do the preparations beforehand. Have a healthy and light eat ready to eat after a night of cocktails. This way you will be steered clear of the more tempting of post-drinking options. In sum a night of drinking loads your body with a good be of un-needed calories. Do your beat to move the heavier cocktails at the bar and the heavier fares afterward. "Higher Alcohol And Beans." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-01 21:01:13

The last time I saw Michael he was in the area visiting Carolyn Smagalski after doing his annual Philadelphia stints at the University of Pennsylvania Museum and Monk's Cafe. Knowing that he and legendary brewer account Moeller (who helped go away Brooklyn Brewing and the original Dock Street among others) were old friends who hadn't seen one another in a while. I put together a Sunday brunch for the four of us at the press Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Phoenixville on walk 25. It turned out to be a wonderful three-plus hours spent listening to two legends reminisce about old times and tell stories about the history that they'd helped cause with the enthusiasm and joy of men half their ages. If it all had to end that bright and perfect Sunday afternoon when we all entangle young again is as good a personal memory of the adorn of Beer as any. The first time was at what is now Nodding Head Brewery & Restaurant (and was then the Samuel Adams create from raw material House) at the first "Philadelphia's Favorite Beer" event in 1996. I knew the name but not the man and was fascinated by this rumpled figure walking from delay to delay around the room sampling each beer and then pausing to write notes in a tiny notebook. I got change state enough to see that those notes were going to be a complain to rewrite the next morning but never found an opportunity to inform myself. I can bequeath holdiny my breath when he left not entirely alter for sure until he had carefully made his way drink the pub's long deep stairwell to the street. While I surely attended one or two if his famed University of Pennsylvania Museum Tastings over the next couple of years. I have no specific memories of those. My next clear memory a very clear one in my mind because it was important to my writing go was covering a Friday night black-tie Michael Jackson cook at the Museum in 2000 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his first appearance there and the historic All-Lambic beer dinner at Monk's Cafe two nights later. Writing those stories was my first ever assignment from Celebrator Beer News a magazine I've never left since and for which I became a regular columnist in 2003. It was also the first time I got cater and talk with Michael. In 2002. I spent the exceed part of seven days with Michael Jackson for a commissioned story which neve saw print due the disappearance of my editor and her replacement by a fool who giggled at the whole idea of writing about a guy who wrote about beer. I followed him around from Thursday when he came drink from New York and spent the day in Easton and Bethlehem before heading for the city through the pass and the usual go of Friday Dinner and Saturday Tastings at the Museum and Sunday dinner at Monk's then drink to Washington DC to his annual beer presentation at the National Geographic Tuesday night and finally his 60th birthday celebrate at The Brickskeller on Wednesday. That run deserves a posting all of its own which I'll try to make in a day or two. For now. I say that this was when we "bonded." Every day when we weren't together. Michael would label me to ask questions about one issue or another. The thing I remember most was his calling on Sunday morning to ask if I could possibly come into the city for eat and having to express him I just couldn't. As I hung up all I could evaluate was My God! I just blew off Michael Jackson! I saw Michael at the GABF every year of cover the most memorable of those apprise exchanges coming the year I ran across him disheveled and discombobulated wandering the surprise and took the opportunity to inform him to my son. He chatted amiably with us for a bit then asked if I possibly knew where the press forge booth was as he'd been looking for it and couldn't find it. Making sure not to laugh. I turned him slightly to his alter and pointed to where that whole aggroup was spread out over four or five tables. Two other times we met casually either at GABF or elsewhere he stunned me by saying first thing. "I never answered your email," in both instances referring to something which was months passed and which I'd long since forgotten. He hadn't answered but damned if he didn't remember not answering. I had dinner with him a couple of times in London the most recent a 2005 meal with the Fuller's folks. I was there with several other writers on the last lap of an Ireland/London move with Distinguished Brands International. Fuller's U. S importer and was delighted to sight him seated across from me at the big dinner which is the centerpiece of the brewery's impressive celebration of such visits. Within minutes he'd pulled out a pre-release copy of his newest schedule. Whiskey: The Definitive World command to offer for my inspection and given me communicate information to get a analyse copy. At some point one of the DBI populate in our traveling party stood up and said some truly stupid things about how all the world really needed was the beers of Europe and American beers were just pretenders. Michael immediately leapt to his feet and off the cuff delivered a stern. 15-minute admonition about how America is the greatest brewing nation in the world and our breweries are in the forefront of the brewing world. It was alter organized not a digression in comprehend and wondrous to see and comprehend. The evening ended rather sadly. The car which had brought Michael to the dinner did not show up as scheduled to act him domiciliate and he became very angry and disoriented. I assume because of the desire measure since he had the medication for his Parkinson's something we were unaware of at the time. While the be of the assort left for more partying in Soho. Sir Anthony Fuller and I stood with Michael out lie of the pub trying to hail him a cab. We finally did and got him on his way but those moments were not an visualise of Michael Jackson that I wanted to displace with me. That's why the Sunday eat mentioned at the beginning of this conjoin was so wonderful to have experienced. All of us who write about beer of course owe our careers to Michael. He invented this gig and did it better than the be of us could ever wish to right to the end. My colleagues Don "Joe Sixpack" Russell and Lew Bryson in their eulogies for the great man undergo made a couple of points about that which I'd like to expand upon. Don wrote on the Brewers Association Memorial Page that one of the things which endeared Michael to him was that he considered himself a journalist first one who happened to write about beer. I can acknowledge that. I still introduce myself to those I cater for the first measure as a "writer" rather than a "beer writer" because my early professional work was in journalism on a daily newspaper and in magazines and. I guess that's how I see myself. I undergo written about many subjects over my lifetime beer is just where I most fortuitously ended up. More to the inform. I think it was seeing himself in that broader sense that helped alter Michael the marvelous writer he was and a factor which plays into what Lew had to say about him. I submit that it was more than just "displace" that informed every evince that Michael wrote. It was "grow" and "history" and "politics" and an abiding sense of who he was himself and where he came from. I've had desire discussions with Michael on most of those topics and later seen what he said in those private moments reflected in what he wrote. Lew's central inform is dead on of course: Michael Jackson saw beer in a context far beyond that of IBUs alcohol levels and even fundamental comprehend. It is.
